Word of mouth is a yoga teacher’s best friend and with word of mouth, local networking is never far behind.
As a teacher we all know that our duties extend far past the 60-90 minutes we spend teaching in the classroom. In fact, the majority of the business stuff is done from coffee shops, couches, and home desks. In your non-teaching time you should be spending time networking on a local level. And that’s exactly what this month’s #teachasanachallenge is all about.
Pick one organization, individual, or news outlet each week for the month of January and network. Pitch a collaboration idea, stop by and make an appointment to chat, referrals with a local chiropractor, or send a yoga article to your local online new source.
Extra credit: amp up your social media networking by tweeting, connecting, and sharing through Facebook THIS #teachasanachallenge. Don’t know any fellow yoga teachers? It’s time to network!!

Meet Kate Connell, the Teachasana Challenge Leader!
Each month, Kate will be conjuring up a new monthly challenge for us to take part in as a way to challenge ourselves and engage in conversation with other teachers!
Kate Connell is a New England native who shares her zest for life and passion for backbending, social media, laughter, and local food in the Midwest oasis of Iowa City, IA. When she’s not working with private clients or leading dynamic group classes, you can find her sparking conversation and dreaming up future Teachasana Challenges . Continue the conversation with Kate on Facebook, Twitter and her website.

To keep myself moving I’ve broken my month out into weeks:
Week 1: Local businesses + sororities – call/email top 10 businesses in my area and propose workplace classes/reach out to university sororities for special yoga event classes.
Week 2: Community offerings – reach out to the city and propose a yoga in the park program I want to launch this summer.
Week 3: Fliers – hit the town with fliers for my current offerings + special workshops in Jan + Feb.
Week 4: Contact the local media – pitch the idea of a weekly yoga blurb in the paper or even a get healthy segment on yoga + meditation.
I love to network, but I definitely let other tasks move to the top of the list. January is all about connecting!
Head on over to our FB page to share your website with other yoga teachers and find out who is in your area! Get your networking on!
