February’s Teachasana Challenge: Connect with Social Media

8 Comments 06 February 2013

23% of Facebook users check their accounts at least five times a day, over 140 million people are on Twitter, and email marketing still triumphs in service fields like yoga and healing. But maybe you aren’t as active on social media as you could be – this month’s challenge is for you!

Every day this month, take a moment to connect on one form of social media. Whether it’s small – an inspirational quote on Twitter or large – a weekly email newsletter packed with yoga tips + at home sequences, commit to engaging in meaningful conversation with your tribe.

Already posting valuable content? Then begin to reach out, interact, and create purposeful conversation with your fans and students.

Start right now: retweet this month’s #teachasanachallenge on Twitter, share the link on Facebook, and get talking to other yoga teachers. Connect with others that inspire you and then share that spark with your students – through social media, of course.

Meet Kate Connell, the Teachasana Challenge Leader!

Each month, Kate will be conjuring up a new monthly challenge for us to take part in as a way to challenge ourselves and engage in conversation with other teachers!

Kate Connell is a New England native who shares her zest for life and passion for backbending, social media, laughter, and local food in the Midwest oasis of Iowa City, IA. When she’s not working with private clients or leading dynamic group classes, you can find her sparking conversation and dreaming up future Teachasana Challenges . Continue the conversation with Kate on Facebook, Twitter and her website.

  1. What a great challenge! I have embarked in this lately and have noticed that how much effort you put into it is directly related to how much return you get. In order to get your name out there, you’ve got to comment, share, write, ask questions and put yourself out in the open (I know, it makes you feel vulnerable, but it’s worth it!). The return has been phenomenal.

Brittany – your social media presence rocks; I notice you on Facebook quite a bit. Do you set time aside to be active on different platforms each day or do you post when inspiration strikes?

      • Brittany says:

Thanks! I try to post something everyday, sometimes a few things. I make an effort to post only things that struck me or that I would like to share. I never post just to post. :)

Since I specialize in creative vinyasas, I have started making time-lapse videos of me doing a home practice session. I’ve gotten a good response from those.

  2. Emmanuelle says:

I love social media to connect with my people, and I use email marketing every week to let them know about upcoming classes and workshops, they love it!

    • Kate says:

How do you get people to join your email list? It’s such a great resource for clients/students + a way to share your knowledge and offerings – now to keep growing it!

  3. marla says:

These tutorials are so helpful as a new teacher! Thank you so much!

  4. As a new mom, I definitely find social media helpful to stay connected to people as well as the yoga community without having to leave my sweet bundle of joy. I bookmark blogs and articles to read later (usually in the middle of the night when feeding)! Wahoo for the amazing online kula!
